Notice Regarding Target Stakes and Stands

Desoto Gun Club will not continue to provide target stakes. The stands are there until they get shot up. You will need to bring your own target stakes. You may choose to bring your own stands as well. Remember your stands still need to meet the proper height requirement.

Important Notice Regarding Range Use

As per majority decision by the board of directors on Sunday January 21st, 2018, the shotgun area at DGC is CLOSED until further notice. The is due to the changes that have recently taken place on the adjoining property. We are taking every precaution to be "safe" and until a decision can be reached it is best to close the shotgun area for normal member use.

Currently there are no changes to the regular 1st Sunday sporting clays shoot. Please pass this message along via word of mouth and emails to all of your DGC friends. We apologize for any hardships this might cause.

NOTICE TO ALL DGC MEMBERS

RECENLTY WE HAVE HAD INDIVIDUALS INSIDE OF OUR GATE & ON RANGES THAT WERE NOT MEMBERS OR “GUESTS”. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. WE ARE ASKING ALL DGC MEMBERS TO BE AWARE OF SUCH AND REPORT ANY PERSONS THAT ARE KNOWN TO BE USING THE RANGES WHILE NOT BEING A MEMBER OR A “GUEST” AS DEFINED IN THE DGC MEMBER HANDBOOK.

WE ASK ALSO THAT YOU DO NOT PERMIT ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT MAY BE FOLLOWING YOU TO ENTER THROUGH THE GATE UNLESS YOU SPECIFICALLY KNOW THAT PERSON(S) IS IN FACT A CURRENT DGC MEMBER. PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE HAS A DGC MEMBERSHIP BADGE DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEIR MEMBERSHIP IS CURRENT. THERE ARE THOSE WHO HAVE NOT PAID THEIR DUES INTENTIONALLY, AND THOSE TOO WHO MAY HAVE UNINTENTIONALLY NOT PAID DUES, OR SUBMITTED THEIR RENEWAL LATE, THUS THEIR MEMBERSHIP WILL NOT BE CURRENT. SOME MEMBERS MAY HAVE HAD THEIR GATE CODE DEACTIVATED BY DGC FOR VIOLATIONS OF SAFETY ISSUES, ETC. THUS PREVENTING THEM FROM ACCESSING DGC PROPERTY. IF YOU SHOULD ENCOUNTER AN INDIVIDUAL AT THE GATE WHO CLAIMS HE/SHE IS A MEMBER BUT THEIR CODE WILL NOT WORK DO NOT GRANT THEM ACCESS. PLEASE ADVISE SUCH INDIVIDUALS THAT THEY MUST CONTACT DGC VIA EMAIL THROUGH THE LINKS PROVIDED AT THE CLUB’S WEB SITE, AND THEIR SITUATION WILL BE LOOKED INTO.

AS A FINAL REMINDER TO EVERYBODY, IF YOU ARE FOUND TO HAVE GRANTED ACCESS TO ANYBODY NOT IN POSSESSION OF A CURRENT DGC MEMBERSHIP YOU WILL BE HELD LIABLE FOR THAT ACTION.

Important Notices Regarding Range Use

  • POINT #1

Bump Fire Stocks are no longer legal and are prohibited on all ranges. By decision of the Desoto Gun Club, Inc. Board of Directors, ANYTHING that simulates ANY firearm to automatic rate of fire is strictly prohibited on ANY range EXCEPT the “containment range”. This will however require prior approval and a special membership badge along with at least one full year of safe, incident free membership. ANYBODY caught in the use of any device or techniques to simulate full automatic rate of fire out of the containment range & without prior approval will have their membership revoked immediately.

  • POINT #2

Due to the risks involved NO TRACER / INCENDIARY ammo of ANY kind may be shot on Desoto Gun Club, Inc. property at ANY time,,,, NEVER! The use of such poses high risks that Desoto Gun Club, Inc. can’t take due to fire hazards. ANYBODY caught in the use of these items will have their membership revoked immediately.

  • POINT #3

No “exploding targets” of ANY sort are permitted to be used on ANY of the ranges,,,NEVER! Again, the fire risks associated with such are too great.

We ask all members to exercise extreme caution when choosing to shoot at anything but typical paper targets. Aerosol paint cans are NOT a good target idea. Please remember than an “empty” propane tank containing only fumes has equal exploding power to 5 sticks of dynamite (information courtesy of the local fire inspector). Obviously a “target” of this nature would be prohibited. USE CAUTION please!

NOTICE TO ALL DGC MEMBERS

Our Ranges are provided on occasion to law enforcement for training & qualification purposes & these events remain scheduled on the DGC web calendar. The real reason they are posted there is NOT so a few of you can come a runnin to horde all the free brass, but rather as a note to members who may choose to avoid such & use the ranges on another day.

First off, when Desoto County Sheriffs or any other law enforcement department folks are using the ranges they are to be left alone. They Are NOT there for free legal consultation or to listen to stories about when you were a cop back in ’65. Their limited time to train is valuable and they wish to NOT be disturbed.

Secondly, Desoto Gun Club, Inc. will NOT tolerate ANY forms of possessive or aggressive behavior when it comes to collecting the brass left behind by the law enforcement departments. Phone calls have been made and emails have been sent to us regarding the embarrassing fact that some of you want us to stop posting law enforcement usage dates on the web calendar so nobody else gets your brass. There are those of you too, who are lined up with rakes and buckets in hand, waiting for the very second you can do a mad dash downrange to collect these free treasures that belong only to you. If you are visiting DGC ranges to ONLY collect brass, please stay home!

ANYBODY caught or reported, displaying aggressive or possessive behavior over the brass will have their membership revoked immediately. There simply & safely is NO place on ANY firing lines for these types of attitudes. If these attitudes tend to persist, all DGC member access codes will be turned off during these times & the law enforcement departments will be advised to bring their own personnel to clean up and remove ALL brass from the ranges as was customary in the past.

Thank you to all members who have read this. Please pass the word along.
